What is computer coding?

Just like humans speak in languages, for example: English, Italian or Chinese - computers speak in programming languages (e.g. Python, Javascript and Ruby on Rails). Coding is giving instructions to a computer in the language it understands (code). Despite all the intelligent and smart things that computers can do they are actually very dumb. They are just very very good at following instructions.

What we learned

In the Code Like a Girl workshop the budding web developers were taught how to use HTML & CSS.

HTML stands for ‘Hyper Text Markup Language’ we learned that it helps the browser understand how to display and handle different text and content on a web page document

CSS stands for ‘Cascading Style Sheets’ and is used to inform the browser how to render the style of the document; colors, sizing, position and alignment of different parts of the document that are in the HTML.
